The Hermès Kelly bag is one of the most popular bags of all time. It is a trapezoid shape bag, with a hard bottom and a closing system with straps. It was designed by Robert Dumas in the 1930s and was originally named “Sac à dépêches” until the Princess of Monaco fell in love with it and decided to order half a dozen of them in different colors.
The fate of the Kelly bag changed when Grace Kelly was photographed carrying the bag to shield her pregnant belly from the paparazzi by Life magazine in 1956. Hermès then renamed it the Kelly bag and it became widespread all over the world.

Hermès is famously known for its handmade luggage and handbag collection. It was first established in 1837 as a saddler shop in Paris by Thierry Hermès. In 1870, his successors moved the business to rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré where it became it’s Maison headquarters today. The creation of the Kelly bag requires 18 hours for its craftsman and is inspected up to its tiniest detail from its interior and exterior to ensure absolute perfection.
According to Vogue, owning a Kelly bag not only shows that you’re a successful woman but means touching your hand with an icon, owning small pieces of fashion history.
Today, the Kelly bag comes in a variety of models - from the Kelly 50 (cm) to the Kelly Mini Mini (15cm) in different materials and made in more than 200 possible combinations.
